Khums Notebook (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a free Android application designed to help users calculate, organize, and maintain personal Khums records for themselves and their households.
We respect your privacy and believe that your financial and religious records belong to you. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App may collect, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.
By using Khums Notebook, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Our Privacy Philosophy
Khums Notebook is designed with a privacy-first and offline-first approach. The App is not intended to sell, advertise, or monetize your personal financial or religious records.
- No Advertising: No advertising is displayed in the App.
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell your personal information, Khums records, or financial data.
- Offline Functionality: The App is designed to work without an internet connection for all core calculation and recording functions.
- User Ownership: You have full control over your data, including the ability to export, backup, or delete your records at any time.
2. Information You May Store in the App
Khums Notebook allows you to voluntarily enter and manage information including:
- Profiles: Names and family relationship information (e.g., Self, Wife, Husband).
- Asset Records: Names of assets (e.g., Bank names, Cash, Gold), categories, and their current values.
- Khums Calculations: Year-over-year records, clean amounts, and calculation formulas.
- Payment Tracking: Records of Khums payments (Imam and Sadaat shares), including amounts, dates, and receiver names.
- Receipt Photos: Optional image attachments or photos of payment proofs that you choose to add.
- Notes: Any personal text notes you choose to enter within profiles, assets, or payments.
You are not required to provide this information to use the basic offline functionality of the App.
3. Local Storage and Data Security
Your Khums records are stored locally on your Android device in a secure SQLite database.
- Receipts: Images attached to payments are stored in the App’s private internal storage directory.
- Data Permanence: If you uninstall the App or clear its data, locally stored records and images will be permanently deleted unless you have created an external backup.
4. Google Drive Cloud Backup & Sync
The App provides an optional cloud backup and synchronization feature using Google Drive.
- User-Controlled: Sync is optional and must be enabled by the user.
- Data Handling: When enabled, the App uploads a compressed backup file containing your database and receipt images to a private folder in your own Google Drive.
- Access: We do not have access to your general Google Drive files. The App only accesses the specific backup files it creates.
5. Google Account / Sign-In
If you choose to use Google Drive synchronization, you will be asked to sign in using your Google account.
- Authentication: We use Google Play Services for authentication. We receive limited information necessary for this process, such as your email address and an account identifier.
- Passwords: Your Google password is never provided to or stored by the App.
6. Calendar Reminders
The App allows you to set annual reminders for your Khums date.
- Intent-Based: Instead of requiring full access to your calendar, the App uses Android “Intents” to pass reminder details to your preferred calendar application (e.g., Google Calendar).
- Control: You review and save the event within your calendar app; Khums Notebook does not read or modify your existing calendar events.
7. Backup and Export
You can save a local backup file to your phone’s storage at any time. These files allow you to move your data to a new device without using cloud sync. You are responsible for keeping these exported files secure.
8. PDF Reports
The App can generate detailed PDF reports of your Khums records. These files are generated on-device. You are responsible for where you save or with whom you share these generated documents.
9. Analytics and Diagnostics
Khums Notebook is designed to minimize data collection. We do not collect your financial amounts, asset names, or religious calculations for analytics or marketing purposes.
10. Religious Information Disclaimer
Khums Notebook is a record-keeping and calculation tool. It is not a religious authority and does not replace the guidance of a qualified Islamic scholar or your Marja. Users should verify religious rulings and calculations with their chosen Marja or qualified religious authority.
11. Data Retention and Deletion
- Retention: Data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
- Deletion: You can delete specific records or clear all App data from your Android system settings. If you use Google Drive sync, you can delete your backup file directly from your Google Drive storage.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as we introduce new features. When changes are made, the “Last Updated” date at the top will be revised.
